Punta Hermosa, Peru is located approximately one hour south of Lima and boasts some of the largest waves in South America. The jewel of this coastline is Pico Alto (Large Peak). Located a 1/2 mile off shore, Pico Alto is created by a series of deep-water rock formations. Waves travel long distances across the Southern Hemisphere and end their journey by crashing up and over these rocks formations, creating huge, right-hand point break waves that can exceed the 50-foot mark. For serious watermen only, Pico Alto is unique because it creates a one-of-a-kind canvas for high performance power-surfing with big wave guns. For this reason, Pico Alto is a perfect venue to showcase the world’s best big wave surfers and their abilities to not only survive, but rip, in big waves.
